Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana : The central government has devised this scheme to distribute free gas cylinders under the name of women to families below the poverty line. The Central Government had launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana on 1 May 2016. Under this scheme, the Government of India is providing domestic LPG cylinders to APL and BPL ration holders in the country.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas of the Central Government implements this scheme nationwide. After successfully implementing Ujjwala Yojana 1.0, the central government recently announced Ujjwala Yojana 2.0. To apply for the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the applicant must be 18 years or older to avail the benefits of this scheme.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

Recently, on August 10, 2023, the Prime Minister of our country Narendra Modi has launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 through video conferencing. Under this scheme, beneficiaries will receive free LPG gas connections. Beneficiaries will receive a loan at 0% interest to purchase a gas stove. The Prime Minister started this scheme from Mahoba district. Ten women beneficiaries received LPG connections through a virtual medium.

Document processing has been simplified under this scheme. Beneficiaries need not submit their ration card and address proof. You have to submit self declaration form to prove your address.

The scheme aims to enroll 1 crore new beneficiaries.

• In the first phase of the scheme, the government targeted around 5 crore households for gas connections in 2016. The scope of this scheme expanded in April 2018, adding 7 more categories.
• The government increased the target for this scheme from 5 crores to 8 crores. By August 2019, around 8 crore women had received LPG connections through this scheme.
• As of July 30, 2024, 79,995,022 beneficiaries have benefited from this scheme. About one crore beneficiaries will get benefits through Ujjwala Yojana 2.0. The government announced this scheme in the 2021 budget.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

Women of below poverty line families have to burn stoves to collect wood and cook food, its smoke harms the health of women and children, the use of LPG gas available under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, can keep the health of women and children safe. This scheme will encourage women empowerment.

Women who have not yet benefited from this scheme should quickly apply to avail its benefits. Right now, the Ujjwala Yojana is giving free gas cylinders to around 7.4 crore women throughout the country.
